The role of nonchemical stressors in modulating the human health risk associated with chemical exposures is an area of increasing attention. On 9 March 2011, a workshop titled "Approaches for Incorporating Nonchemical Stressors into Cumulative Risk Assessment" took place during the 50th Anniversary Annual Society of Toxicology Meeting in Washington D.C. Stressor analysis approaches for endangered species assessments

The US Endangered Species Act is legislation with the power to limit human activities that may have deleterious effects on the viability of threatened and endangered species of fauna and flora. However, because most endangered species face multiple threats, it is often unclear whether limiting specific activities will improve the likelihood of long-term survival, particularly when the relative ...

Cumulative Risk Assessment Toolbox: Methods and Approaches for the Practitioner

The historical approach to assessing health risks of environmental chemicals has been to evaluate them one at a time. In fact, we are exposed every day to a wide variety of chemicals and are increasingly aware of potential health implications. Although considerable progress has been made in the science underlying risk assessments for real-world exposures, implementation has lagged because many ...

Cumulative Risk Estimation for Chemical Mixtures

In reality, humans are always exposed to a combination of toxic substances and seldom to a single agent. Simultaneous exposure to a multitude of chemicals could result in unexpected consequences. The combined risk may lead to greater or less than a simple summation of the effects induced by chemicals given individually. Here, a method is proposed for estimating the cumulative risk which is the ...
